FAQ

1. Who is coaching for?

Coaching is designed for youth aged 8-18 who are navigating challenges related to school, social situations, or future planning. It provides support to build confidence, develop resilience, and achieve their goals. Additionally, coaching is beneficial for those who want to proactively develop strategies and normalize discussing issues, even if they’re not currently facing struggles.

2. Will you accept coaching for children younger than 8?

Yes, I offer coaching for children younger than 8. The format will be adjusted, such as dividing a one-hour session into two shorter segments. Parents seeking coaching for younger children should email melanie@empowermeyouth.ca to set it up.

3. Will you accept adults for coaching?

Currently, I am accepting adults for coaching. However, this may change in the future if it impacts the availability of sessions for youth.

4. My child has a mental health illness. Is coaching for them?

Coaching is not a substitute for therapy or counseling. If your child has a mental health condition, it is important to seek guidance from a mental health professional. Coaching is intended for youth who need support with personal growth and achieving goals. Please note that if a mental health issue is identified during coaching sessions, the coaching will be paused, and appropriate referrals will be made.

5. How often should my child see a coach?

It is recommended to start with a regular schedule, such as bi-monthly appointments. The frequency can be adjusted based on your child's needs and progress. You can choose the schedule that best fits your child’s needs, and you have the flexibility to end sessions at any time if you feel it is appropriate.

6. How do I get started with coaching?

To get started, book a session online. After booking, an intake form will be emailed to you, which should be completed at least 24 hours before the coaching session.

7. What should I expect during a coaching session?

Sessions are tailored to meet your child’s individual needs and may include goal-setting exercises, stress management techniques, and strategies for improving self-confidence and decision-making.

8. What happens after each session?

Parents will receive a follow-up email summarizing key elements discussed during the session to keep them informed about their child's progress.

9. How much does coaching cost?

One-on-one coaching sessions are $75 per session. For sibling coaching, there is an additional charge of $50 per child.

10. Can I attend a workshop or retreat?

Yes, workshops and retreats are offered throughout the year. Sign up for the email list to receive updates and first notifications about upcoming events.

11. Can the coaching session be done in French?

Yes, coaching sessions can be conducted in French. However, please note that certain documents may be in English.

12. I want my child to receive coaching, but they aren't dealing with any significant challenges right now. Is that okay?

No worries! During the first session, I’ll guide your child through a "Wheel of Life" activity, where we'll identify the areas in which they feel the most and least confident. This gives us a great starting point, and subsequent sessions will focus on developing strategies in those key areas. Coaching can be valuable even when there aren’t major challenges—it helps build skills and confidence for the future.
